Annual Volán timetable change set for December 15

This year, the annual timetable change is set for December 15, with MÁV Zrt. implementing several adjustments in intercity transport. Based on passenger feedback, this year will see a greater emphasis on Volán bus services, which will experience several schedule changes. The primary goal is to further improve commuting options for work and school across different parts of the country, and to more effectively leverage the opportunities presented by the ongoing and future integration of MÁV group’s transportation services.

The timetable changes this year primarily focus on bus services to better align with passenger needs. Thanks to the new fare system and affordable county and national passes, significantly more people are using MÁV group services, including buses. To accommodate this demand, the new timetable for the 2024/2025 period, starting December 15, will be based on the current year’s offerings, allowing passengers to continue using the familiar bus routes. Thus, there will be fewer changes for passengers to adapt to compared to previous years, though some key modifications aimed at ensuring predictable travel will be implemented.

Changes in the Volán timetable are primarily aimed at expanding and improving transportation options. In Pest county, new routes will be introduced between Budapest, Kelenföld and Páty, Zsámbék, Szigetszentmiklós, and Szigethalom to facilitate easier travel to the capital from these areas.

In Komárom-Esztergom county, as well as on some bus routes towards Győr and Székesfehérvár, a new timetable will be implemented to allow buses to operate on a regular schedule with connections to trains and other bus services. The new timetable will make it easier for residents in various areas, including Esztergom, Komárom, Tata, Tatabánya, Oroszlány, Mór, and Székesfehérvár, to reach regional and county centers, thus significantly enhancing transport options.

A new timetable will be introduced on the Miskolc–Bükkaranyos–Harsány–Kisgyőr route, establishing direct connections between the three towns. The new schedules will ensure regular train connections in Miskolc, aligning bus schedules with train services. Additionally, travel options between Miskolc and Bánkút will expand to improve access to the Bükk Plateau, with buses connecting to InterCity trains at Miskolc-Tiszai station.

In Nagykőrös, timetable improvements will result in more bus services reaching the railway station, facilitating transfers to and from Budapest and Szeged-bound trains. In Baranya county, new timetables on the Mohács–Palotabozsok–Pécsvárad route will enhance direct travel options between the two cities.

Long-distance services will also see changes. More relief buses will operate on several routes, meaning at least two buses will depart at a given time. As a result, more scheduled services will operate, particularly on Fridays and Sundays, such as from Budapest to Ózd, Szentes, Kalocsa, Szekszárd, and towards Zala county, as well as on routes to Veszprém and Tapolca, and between Szeged and Pécs. Additionally, more buses will run from Budapest towards Salgótarján, Csongrád, and Szentes, and from Pécs to Baja and Kecskemét. Thanks to these changes, express buses between Pécs and Baja will operate hourly throughout the day.
