Based on an agreement between the Ministry of Construction and Transport and the local government of Baja, the MÁV Group will enhance direct travel options between the city and Budapest starting January 1, 2025. Under this agreement, travelers will be able to reach the capital more swiftly with three daily direct express bus services. These new VOLÁN routes will travel between Baja and the Népliget bus station in Budapest via the M6 motorway, bypassing Szekszárd, in just two and a half hours.
The planned addition of three new border crossing points on the Hungarian-Serbian border could boost Baja’s logistical and transportation significance, positioning the city as the southern gateway of the country. Currently, there is no direct train connection between Baja and Budapest. Responding to public demand, the MÁV Group’s bus transport brand, VOLÁN, will introduce new express services starting January 1, 2025, operating three times daily between Baja and Budapest, without detours through Szekszárd.
On the new 1130 Budapest–Baja bus line, three departures from Baja are scheduled daily at 5:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 5:30 PM, while departures from Budapest are at 9:50 AM, 1:50 PM, and 5:50 PM. Traveling via the M6 motorway and stopping at the Kelenföld Power Plant stop, the journey from Baja to the Buda side takes just 2 hours and 20 minutes, with the total travel time to Budapest’s Népliget bus station being 2 and a half hours.
Tickets for these bus services will be available according to the prevailing intercity fare rates, and passengers can secure guaranteed seating by purchasing an optional seat reservation.
