Under the new nationwide 10-year public bus service contract effective from April 1, MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt. will replace the current operators to provide scheduled bus services on the Budapest–Csömör, Csömör–Kistarcsa–Nagytarcsa–Pécel, Budapest–Tiszaújváros–Polgár–Tiszavasvári–Vásárosnamény–Tákos–Csaroda–Beregsurány, Budapest–Pacsa–Zalaegerszeg–Lenti, and Nyíregyháza–Kótaj–Buj–Tiszabercel–Gávavencsellő–Balsa routes.
For a few more days, Hungary’s intercity bus services will be managed by five companies: MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt., G-Busline Kft., Trans-Tour ’90 Kft., Trans-Vonal Kft., and Weekendbus Zrt. However, from April, based on the new contract, only MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt. will be authorized to operate these services. Consequently, the suburban, regional, and national bus routes operated by these private companies will be transitioned to Volán from the first day of April.
The state operator will take over the 419 Budapest–Csömör and 449 Csömör–Kistarcsa–Nagytarcsa–Pécel bus routes from Weekendbus Közlekedési Zrt. Starting April 1, the 449 route will run via the M0 motorway, resulting in minor schedule changes, with stops at different times than before and a new stop at the HÉV station instead of the swimming pool in Kistarcsa. The 419 route schedule remains unchanged. The service will use air-conditioned, low-floor buses with a capacity similar to the current fleet.
On the 1055 Budapest–Tiszaújváros–Polgár–Tiszavasvári–Vásárosnamény–Tákos–Csaroda–Beregsurány route, MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt. will replace Trans-Tour ’90 Közlekedési Kft. with buses maintaining the current schedule. These buses will be 49-seat Neoplan Tourliners, equipped with USB charging ports and air conditioning.
The 1187 Budapest–Pacsa–Zalaegerszeg–Lenti line will see minor changes as G-Busline Autóbuszközlekedési Kft. routes are transferred. Buses will now depart from and arrive at Népliget in Budapest, rather than the Déli station. They will also stop at Sasadi út, Petőfi híd (Buda side), and Újbuda-központ, creating a unified service system with the Zalaegerszeg-Lenti routes previously operated by the company, including the option to reserve seats. Public transport connections within Budapest will significantly improve with better links to BKK Zrt. services (M3, M4 metro lines, and tram lines 1, 4, 6), simplifying access to the southern and eastern parts of the city. In Zalaegerszeg, to enhance passenger service, the route will shift from Köztársaság út to Alsóerdei út–Göcseji út, stopping at the Kertváros entrance instead of Eötvös József Primary School, and also serving the Köztemető (Göcseji út) stop. Some departure times will be slightly adjusted. Additional services are planned for weekends based on demand. The route will be served by 55-seat, air-conditioned, three-axle Neoplan Tourliner buses equipped with USB chargers.
The 4249 Nyíregyháza–Kótaj–Buj–Tiszabercel–Gávavencsellő–Balsa bus route will be taken over from Trans-Vonal Közlekedési Kft. by the state operator. The service schedule will remain the same, but buses will now universally depart from and arrive at the bus station instead of Petőfi tér in Nyíregyháza, using high-capacity, air-conditioned, low-floor three-axle Volvo 8900 LE buses, comparable in capacity to the current fleet.
