Prevost has delivered the first new bus intended for express routes from a record-breaking series of 381 units ordered by North America’s largest transportation company, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which operates in New York and its vicinity. This order was placed a year and a half ago with the Canadian bus manufacturer, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The signing of this historically significant contract for the renowned Canadian coach specialist<\/a>\u00a0was announced on December 19, 2023<\/a>. The agreement for the delivery of a total of 381 Prevost X3-45 Commuter long-distance buses includes a firm order for 250 vehicles, which are to be delivered to the New York transportation company between 2025 and 2026. Thanks to this large order, more than 150 new employees have been hired at Prevost’s Sainte-Claire plant (Qu\u00e9bec, Canada) since last year, and the contract also provides work for local suppliers. According to the official renderings, the vehicles will arrive in a single-door configuration equipped with a wheelchair lift in the middle. The MTA currently operates several hundred units of this type, and the newest series will be numbered 1630-1879.<\/p>\n

On Prevost’s two-model product line, the 45-foot (13.72-meter) long X3-45 is the more affordable and lower model, positioned below the H3-45 flagship model<\/a>. Available since 2011, the Commuter variant, recommended mainly for scheduled, employee shuttle, and commuter services, is distinguished from the base model by features such as a two-winged front door, passenger information displays, and a driver\u2019s area and mirrors adapted for urban use. Like its larger sibling, the X3-45 is powered by a 435 horsepower (320 kW) Volvo D13 diesel engine, with power transmission handled by a six-speed Allison automatic transmission. In addition to its own developed models, the Canadian company\u2019s production program also includes the overseas market adaptation of the second generation Volvo 9700<\/a> coach.<\/p>\n\n
