Under the most recent schedule, the vehicles would not have arrived until spring 2027, but according to ViP, Ebusco was unable to provide a sufficiently reliable delivery guarantee even for that date.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">The loss of the Potsdam contract comes at a particularly bad time for Ebusco. Barely a month earlier, on July 7, the first Ebusco 3.0 built by China’s Golden Dragon rolled off the assembly line, marking an important milestone in the Dutch company’s new business model, which relies on external production partners after severe manufacturing problems in recent years. Az [...]\u003C\u002Fdiv>\n                \u003C\u002Fdiv>\n            \u003C\u002Fa>\n        \u003C\u002Fdiv>\n        \n\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">ViP selected Ebusco at the end of 2023 as the supplier of its first larger battery-electric bus fleet. The order, worth around €17.4 million, covered ten 12-metre solo and thirteen 18-metre articulated Ebusco 3.0 buses. The procurement was also linked to nearly €4.7 million in federal funding. According to the original delivery plan, the first 12-metre buses were due to arrive in Potsdam in March 2025, with the articulated vehicles scheduled for handover two months later. In the end, however, not a single one of the 23 vehicles was delivered.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">Ebusco subsequently revised the completion date several times. Despite this, ViP stood by the Dutch manufacturer for a long time. Even at the beginning of 2026, the company still expected the buses to arrive, but the project continued to accumulate ever greater delays. By the summer, the situation had become critical. In July, the Potsdam operator made it clear that it expected a binding and reliable delivery schedule from Ebusco. Under the latest scenario, the handover of the vehicles would have been pushed back as far as spring 2027, meaning the first buses would have arrived around two years later than originally promised. According to ViP, however, Ebusco was ultimately unable to guarantee even this deadline in a sufficiently credible manner. The Potsdam transport company therefore decided to terminate the contract with immediate effect.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">Ebusco responded to the Potsdam decision in an official statement on August 9, making it clear that the Dutch manufacturer does not consider the matter closed. According to the company, it received ViP’s letter of July 23, containing the notice of termination with immediate effect, on July 29, and then stated in writing on August 3 that it objected to the cancellation of the order.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedia.magyarbusz.info\u002F2026\u002F08\u002Ffile_0000000019d471f480b96e820590e987.webp\">\u003Cimg loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-94806\" src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedia.magyarbusz.info\u002F2026\u002F08\u002Ffile_0000000019d471f480b96e820590e987.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"436\" title=\"\" \u002F>\u003C\u002Fa>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">One notable element of the manufacturer’s statement is that Ebusco also takes issue with the termination of the contract being made public on August 7. The company argues that in the preceding weeks the parties had still been negotiating the delivery schedule and the related commercial terms, while the deadline available for Ebusco’s detailed response had not yet expired. This is a particularly interesting line of argument in light of the fact that, by then, almost a year and a half had passed since the originally agreed delivery date for the first vehicles, and despite several revised deadlines, ViP had not received a single one of the 23 buses it had ordered. In this situation, it is hardly surprising that ViP ultimately did not wish to wait any longer and opted to terminate the contract with immediate effect. Ebusco, in any case, reserves all its rights, while the Potsdam operator has also indicated that it may bring claims against the manufacturer. The Dutch company is currently assessing these, as well as the potential financial impact of the contract termination.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">The timing of the Potsdam case is also unfortunate for Ebusco from a financial perspective: the company will publish its results for the first half of 2026 on August 14, and says it intends to address the effects of the contract termination and any possible claims from Potsdam in those figures. It has also promised to provide a detailed statement on ViP’s decision on the same day.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">The termination of the contract does not mean Potsdam is abandoning its electric bus programme. ViP still intends to procure 23 battery-electric buses, and has therefore already begun preparing a new public procurement procedure. According to the plans, the technical requirements of the new tender will largely be based on the documentation from the 2023 call for tenders, which could help speed up the procedure. For the time being, however, it remains unclear when the vehicles could actually enter service after a new manufacturer is selected.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">The Potsdam story stands in particularly stark contrast to Ebusco’s plans of just a few years ago. In the early 2020s, the Dutch company was regarded as one of the most promising players in the European electric bus market, and in a short time built up a substantial order book. The Ebusco 3.0, unveiled in 2019, played a decisive role in this. Using technologies adopted from the aerospace industry, the model, with its carbon-fibre-reinforced composite body, extremely low kerb weight, traction batteries integrated into the floor and the resulting favourable energy consumption, represented a major technical innovation at the time of its launch.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">\u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedia.magyarbusz.info\u002F2026\u002F08\u002F593815-593818-1920x1459-1.webp\">\u003Cimg loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-94807\" src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fmedia.magyarbusz.info\u002F2026\u002F08\u002F593815-593818-1920x1459-1.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"532\" title=\"\" \u002F>\u003C\u002Fa>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">Ebusco was planning for rapid growth. Even in 2023, it was working on establishing a production structure that would have made it possible to manufacture more than 3,000 zero-emission buses a year. There was no shortage of orders either: significant contracts came in from numerous European countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, France and the Scandinavian markets.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">Production, however, was unable to keep pace with the rapid growth of the order book. In addition to supplier problems, ramping up series production of the Ebusco 3.0 proved particularly difficult. Delays began to accumulate, while the company’s working capital requirements also increased significantly. Over time, the production problems led to ever more serious financial difficulties, and because of the delays several transport operators cancelled their orders either in part or in full. Ebusco thus found itself in an increasingly difficult position precisely when, under its earlier rapid-growth strategy, it should have been significantly increasing output.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify\">The Dutch company eventually fundamentally reshaped its business model. Ebusco gradually moved away from its previous concept of manufacturing a significant proportion of its vehicles in its own European plants, and gave an increasingly important role to external contract partners.
